{Artist} Fuyuko Matsui

Some time ago I came across something that startled my senses, made my eyes widen and take a quick breath in. Peering at these pieces for the first time was like what they say happens when an accidents occurs, no matter how hard you try to turn your head away, you just can't help but keep looking. And that's exactly what I couldn't stop doing viewing these pieces of art. Maybe you're thinking this is sick or grotesque, but isn't real life just that at times!?! I like realness with my art, I admire someone who isn't afraid to just put their all in there, no matter what the results or how it may shock others. But, that is art, something to shock the senses and make the viewer think and wonder. There is a world of wonders to find far beyond what I've included here, I hope you will seek her out and enjoy!!

Have a wonderful day dolls!!

Narcissism, Insanity and Miscommunication. Madness, self-contradiction, suffering, ghost worlds, discrimination, celebration, death, abjection, the feminine body, the male gaze, nature, distortion of reality…

Fuyuko Matsui (born Jan. 20, 1974) is a female Japanese artist that specialises in Nihonga paintings with a 'grotesque' or supernatural apparance to them. She's been widely exhibited in Japan and in many magazines and tv. She was named 'Nihonga Painting: Six Provocative Artists' at the Yokohama Museum of Art in August 2006. Despite the shocking aspects, her art is part of the tradition of Japanese going back centuries.

She says, ''Art, despite all its complexities and convolutions, is and always has been simply a mirror of humanity. While one artist expresses hope, another gives voice to fear. While one explores our love of order, another expresses our fascination with chaos; together all these fragments make up something resembling the human psyche. In a way, I'm doing something that viewer can't do for himself. It's like people who occasionally thing about jumping under a train. In my art, I'm actually jumping under the train. That shock - I'm doing it for you'.

This also explains artistic trends and why they never last. An artist trend is, in essence an exaggeration of one element or aspect of the human psyche reflected by art, and, because it is a distortion, its duration is limited. It is a cast iron rule that what is trendy today will wither and fade in the future. This is especially true of Japanese art, which is more trend-driven than anywhere else". (via interview here)

  3. Its kinda scary but I guess that is what the artist see! usually painters show whats in their minds and what kind of thoughts they have in head. Maybe she sees the dark side of the world more and give it the attention that none one does. Nice post :)

  4. Oh Kizzy her work is amazing - love how it is almost magical. We had a sunshiny weekend (warmish but not a scorcher) but now it is grey - looks like our summer seasons now really is monsoon/wet season ;)))

  5. Love her art! It's like a beautiful nightmare - or as you've written in your "leave a comment" area: "The beautiful is always bizarre". I like what she says about different artists giving expressing different places in the human psyche, how suddenly when you stand in front of s piece of art you can recognize a certain feeling you've been living with for some time - and now you all by a sudden can see it in front of your eyes. It's happened to me a few times...Good luck with your Queen-spotting! :) The weather in Sweden is actually pretty good today, so I'm looking forward to going to a barbecue party tonight. But first I need to call my insurance company, since some asshole stole my iPhone on Saturday. Grrrrrr...... xox

  16. You're right doll, this truly is a collection that I find tough to divert my eyes from. It's a little macabre, some of the photos but ones of just the lady trying to discover herself are beautiful, they all are beautiful in a way, they just vary in darkness.

The lady who made these undoubtedly has eons of talent, I love your new comment description by the way.
