{Happy Friday} Question Me

Hiya my darling dolls, I do hope the week fared well with you! This week has seemed long for me really, I'm glad for the weekend. I'll be enjoying my weekend with some preparations for my upcoming birthday in the new week (Wednesday) and getting some photography work done that I've not had time to finish....for those that have asked...you can view/purchase my work from my website 'Nouveau Dreams', I have some things still to add to it, but it's there to see & hopefully you will enjoy it :)  I was tagged in some questions so long ago by the beauty Miss. Meadows, so I'm finally getting them answered, sorry if it's long...Hope you enjoy & have a marvellous weekend.

xoxoxox

P.S. Welcome to all of my new 'followers', I appreciate you being here.

1. What is your guilty pleasure?

I don't have any to be honest, if I want something I just have it. I think we spend too much time feeling bad for things, especially things they label as a guilty pleasure, such as food. If I want chocolate, I eat it & I eat a lot of it really, but I like it, so there's no guilt there. I think when we feel bad for wanting to eat chocolate or buy something, we only stress ourselves out and become miserable. If you can afford it, buy it or if you take care of yourself otherwise, have the chocolate and be happy :)

2. If a magic genie would pop up out of a lamp and give you three wishes, what would those wishes be?

* To be able to spend some missed time with my father.

* To live in some Edwardian like manor house somewhere in the countryside with my husband and girls, bunnies, a secret garden, peacocks and flowers and antiques everywhere and best of all lots of happiness :))

* To travel the world to all the marvellous Art places and work in a beautiful museum.

3. What is your favourite thing to wear?

Hmmm...most people would pop in and say dresses and yes this is true, haha! But, sometimes it's the fabrics that I look at first. I like silks, satins and lace. Fabrics that glide over the skin and make you feel good and smile to yourself. I would definitely say anything that's different. I don't like to put myself in a box and say I only wear vintage or I only wear this and that....I like to say I only wear what I like or what I feel is unique. That's more important to me than all the other things. Being unique and being me...I don't ever want a label of a 'vintage girl' or other silly things people have come up with, I just want to be me and be creative - always! Whenever I fall in line and loose the creativity in things is when life will be over for me, I live to create :) 'I want to be a work of art & have magic, yes magic' as the saying goes!

4. If you could invite four persons (living or dead) to a dinner party, who would you invite, and why?

Kate Bush - because she's freaking awesome, adore her <3

Theda Bara - because she's seen as one of the first sex symbols of film, I'd like to hang out with her away from that & discover who she was as just herself. Because when you're labelled as something like that, the real you tends to get washed away.

Marilyn Monroe - I think for the same reasons as I said for the above, they pretty much had the same label, just at different times. I'd like to know how it made them feel as women to deal with all the pressure and sometimes only being seen as a sex symbol and nothing else.

Audrey Hepburn - because she had the biggest heart for children and love. She cared and campaigned for those in need. Most people today care only for themselves, material possessions or for getting famous, she used all those things to make life brighter for others.

5. What's your favorite movie?

Hmmm..since I've gotten this one before, I'll name a different one as I have many favourite movies.  I loved this movie growing up in the 80's. It gave me that spark of rebellion really, about being yourself even when those around you appear different, because at the end of the day, we all go through a lot of the same things...so don't assume your better than another person because you just don't know what they face.

6. What's the worst pick-up line you've ever heard?

Hahaha...'do you wash your clothes in bleach, because I can see myself in them'. Seriously, get a grip. No one likes that. My husband wrote me poetry...that's how you get my attention, with intelligence, manners and respect for me as a woman with feelings and brains.

7. I know children and pets come first. But what is your most prized MATERIAL possession?

 I can do without material possessions in that way, if there is something in my house that I think to myself that I'd freak if it was gone or couldn't give to someone, then I shouldn't really have it. I prefer people and experiences over material possessions. But, since I'm being asked for something, I would say a softball glove & uniform top, a rosary and some old photos of my father. He died when I was 3 almost four, so those things are all I have of him, they can't be replaced, so, that would be my choice.

8. What is your favorite song?

Kate Bush - Cloudbusting. She's been my favourite since a child...I've always felt she was something that didn't fit in the box like myself. I always find solace in her music and creativity. When I'm feeling down I listen to Cloudbusting and it's like everything gets better, like her lyrics say...''Cause every time it rains, your here in my head, like the sun coming out, I just know that something good is going is gonna happen, I don't know when, but just saying it could even make it happen'. She's a beautiful artist that I just adore.

9. What was your favorite toy when you were little?

My Wonder Woman doll

10. If you could live someone else's life for one day, who would you choose, and why?

No one...I like being me and I wouldn't ever want to be anyone else, even for a day. Someone's life can seem picture perfect from the outside, but once your there in their shoes, you can often see that they have struggles just like anyone else. And I'm limited edition - one of a kind, so  I just want to be me :))))))

11. What's the most nerve-wracking thing you've ever done?

Sing in front of hundreds of people, I was only nervous for a few minutes though...stage lights are so bright and blinding, you can't see the crowd anyways...until someone's camera flashes. But, it's fine really.

Beauties on the street...

Hello street hearts!! Happy Wednesday, how's the week going so far!?! Mine, is going grand actually...the weather got better and the sun has been shining :) I haven't done one of these posts in ages, so I thought I would fix that & share some looks of people taken on the street. I do enjoy these blogs of street photographers that catch some really amazing looks walking around.  I just chose some that jumped out at me from random pages, do click the links to them to enjoy more if you'd like. Have a marvellous Wednesday!!

{I love her style and gorgeous cheek bones, she has a real unique beauty, that draws me in. And this dress is wonderful. I like how she's been captured at the last minute}

Blue suit, London. The Sartorialist

{This is something I wish more men would take up - wearing nicely tailored suits, you don't even have to wear the full suit, just the trousers and a nice shirt is good too. Stop that saggy skinny trouser trend, they are skinnies, they were not meant to sag and show your vile drawers...also no girl likes pants (undies) with cartoons or sayings on them...stop...just STOP it, lol}

{I liked her because she looked fun, that dress is amazing and I'd love to have it, haha. I also wish to know what she was looking at as her expression is interesting. Gorgeous woman.}

{Again he's wearing a lovely jacket, love this fabric and yes maybe also because he's having an ice cream & I want one too ; D}

{I just love the fabric and I want to wear this too, it's dreamy. She's a beauty as well and pulls this off very elegantly without looking too revealing, which is why it caught my eye so much.}

{The fact that I can't stop staring at his moustache is what made me choose this, his style is great...I just wonder how long it took him to create that facial piece}

{I love Japan and it's ways...she's precious. Love her hair colour and sweet appearance & the little horns sticking out. I enjoy people that do their own thing}

Blue Dream - Easy Fashion Paris

{Nothing to say but, I want the dress & she's gorgeous}

{She's marvellous, I want the WHOLE outfit, glasses too, love it}

The Nyanzi Report. London

{Her accessories are stunning, she looks like an exotic princess, not to mention her skin is flawless, such a gorgeous woman. And I wish I could grow my nails to even half the length of her...but, alas they always break}

{Last, but certainly no means least, this stunner in an amazing electric colour that I adore and those heels are killer, would love those, I can see why she caught the eye of the camera}

{All photos are copyrighted to their respected photographer. I do not own any of these images. For display purposes only. Please click the links if you wish to see more, contact the photographer or anything else, thank you}

I'll tell ya what I want, what I really really want!

Happy Monday beauties!! How was your weekend!?! I hope it was bliss. I rested and hung around, I felt a little un-inspired to post on Friday, so I just read books and watched old movies. But, anyways...these are just some things that I've been browsing over...I hope all of you have a wonderful Monday & keep shining!!

A Statuesque Killing...

Take one jealous drug addicted millionaire, an architect and America's most famous beauty and you're sure to end up with a dangerous and fateful concoction. And this is just what happened, all due to a false connection to a nude bronze statue named 'Diana', also known as 'Diana of the Tower'. In 1892, Diana was the tallest object on the Manhattan skyline. In Victorian America, this was as risqué as it got, commissioned by architect Standford White, she was created by American sculpture Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Diana is bathing by a woodland pool & senses she's being spied on and stands up nude and shoots her arrow at the young Prince & transforms into a stag. White placed Diana at the pinnacle at what was then Madison Square Garden & not the sports arena we know today, but an earlier building topped with an ornate tower and illuminated by a spotlight. Diana could be seen by every New Yorker. Children were rushed past by their nannies, so they wouldn't see the vision, old men used their spy glasses to view the naked beauty. This statue spoke to America, where modesty was on it's way out and overt display was on it's way in.

 A real woman who came to display this spirit, was Evelyn Nesbit. Many New Yorkers believed her face & figure was the inspiration for Diana. Like a supermodel of today, Evelyn was first famous for her looks and then famous for being famous. Her life became gossip and speculation in a new kind of newspaper, one that New York helped create: The Tabloid. At the same time she was the personification of every man's fantasy. Stanford White shared this fantasy.

 The famous architect was also a famous womaniser, even though married with children. He was rumoured to have secret love nests all around Manhattan where he seduced many young woman like Nesbit. He met her when she was merely 14 years old, he saw a breath-taking beauty and took her under his wing. At the turn of the century remember, it was considered nearly the right age at 14 to get married and have children - gladly times have changed. He invited Evelyn to one of his apartments and supplied her with champagne and pushed her on a red velvet swing. She became groggy and passed out. She woke up hours later with her clothes beside her & felt violated somehow. White made her promise not to tell anyone, not even her mother. Evelyn said in her own memoir that, 'I went in there a girl and came out a woman'. She didn't even tell the new man she became involved with after about it - at first, Harry Thaw, a millionaire playboy.

Born into a wealthy family in the 1890's, Thaw was a cocaine feign and indulged in anything possible. Standford White used all his influences in New York to shut Thaw out. The 2 men hated each other, understandably. Thaw had cocaine rages and threw furniture. When Standford White got him blacklisted from every club, Thaw took a tremendous front to this and got back at him by marrying Evelyn. On their wedding night, Evelyn revealed that Standford had taken her virginity, Thaw flew into a violent rage & over time came to assault his bride with a dog whip. Thaw realised that Standford White wasn't heart broken over this and it made him even more angry. He started on the notion that White ruined his wife and used her as a model for the statue that was at the top of the Original Madison Square Garden. Thaw's anger, fuelled by righteous indignation & cocaine, moved him into plan of action. He decided that White must pay with his life.

On June 25th, 1906 in an open air theatre beneath the statue of Diana, Thaw & Evelyn attended a performance, seeing Standford White, Thaw took aim and shot him in the face. White fell to the ground, people screamed and rushed away. Harry Thaw shouted, 'I did this because you ruined my wife'! Beneath the statue that helped trigger Thaw's rage, Standford White dies in a pool of blood. The arrest & trial that follow caused a media frenzy in New York and beyond. It was the trial of the century. It resulted in a hung jury and at Thaw's second trial, Evelyn took the stand as the prosecution's star witness. The jury thought Thaw was right to defend his wife's honour and he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Evelyn, America's first supermodel faded into obscurity, dying alone after a long struggle of drugs and alcohol. And as it turns out, the statue that sparked the murder, wasn't even Evelyn at all. It had been created when she was only 7 years old, the real inspiration for the statue was Julia Baird

Moral of the story kids....jealousy & drugs don't mix...keep it clean & keep away from the crazies! All I can say is....scandalous, haha!! There is much more to learn about Evelyn, but I just stayed with this story, but do check more out as it's quite interesting!! Have a fun Wednesday dolls!!

To Thine Own Self Be True...

Hiya darlings! I hope you are feeling fine this Monday :) My weekend was bliss really, the weather was marvellous, sun shining, birds chirping...magic!! Also the football (soccer) started again here, so my husband was extra happy for that, haha :) Also, my new vintage dress that I bought as part of my birthday (in September) came & I love it...fits perfectly like it was made for me :))) But, alas I don't get it until my birthday, haha. But, I can still look at it & create an outfit out of it...that counts, doesn't it!?! ;-) Sometimes we find it so easy to compliment others because we believe they have something we lack, without even realising that the uniqueness we possess already, is just as equal to someone else! Sometimes we have to put those blinders on, the ones that stop us from comparing ourselves to the people we see & just appreciate the gifts and bodies we've been given. We are creations...masterpieces....works of art! We live, we breathe, we are the only people on Earth that will ever be ourselves & that is unique & something, if not everything to celebrate. I know sometimes we're given things that drastically set us apart from others, but it's a test of character as to how we deal with those....like the...if you get lemons...make lemonade sort of thing. So...the next time you start to compare yourself to someone else...imagine what the world would be like to those that love you...if you were never brought into this world...everyone is a gift to someone....even when we don't realise it...so love yourself!!

Have a great Monday

People often say that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.
