| Hot Pink |

"Don't be afraid to share all the bright and beautiful colours that make up who you are"

Are there colours that you would have ran away from but, now fully embrace? Well, hot pink was that colour for me - Any pink for that matter actually. I didn't like it what so ever & you couldn't have paid me to wear it at all. I partly just didn't like the colour and the other part of me didn't like how society put pink as a 'girls' colour and that's it! My favourite colour was blue & I wanted to wear blue all the time - still do. Whenever I would wear blue, people would always point out that it was a 'boys colour' and that pink would look nicer on me. I hated that & it only made me despise pink more. Colours of any kind are not gendered & anyone can wear whatever colour they love. Society beauty standards are warped and need dismantled! We rely too much on what 'fashion people' say or don't say. We have forgotten to use our own creative minds and thoughts.
My other pet peeve about pink was I never seemed to find a pink that suited my skin tone. Back in the 80's/90's the shade of pink that was popular for people to wear didn't look great with my skin tone. There wasn't a lot of choice for those of colour to choose from as many things were still catered for white faces. Brands that did have something were usually too expensive for me. And it was always noted that certain shades women of colour just shouldn't wear. But, thankfully we are gradually making a lot of progress in regards to having a broad spectrum of items women of colour can wear and use (especially for my very dark beauties of colour) - in both fashion and makeup. I can now have an easier time in the stores or online finding brands that cater for all women.
Colours that I thought didn't suit me growing up, I now find myself wearing and looking just fine in them. I've actually realised I have a skin tone that can get away with wearing pretty much any colour or shade I like. Like this black dirndl, obviously you don't see me in a lot of black, but I actually love black a lot. It makes colours pop so well, I've wanted a dirndl for a very long time & found one in the Etsy shop Hannah & Francis Jane I follow them on instagram & noticed one in their shop, kept an eye on it & snapped it up as soon as I could (I've just bought something else from them yesterday as a matter of fact) It fits perfectly and the material is as such that I'll be able to wear it in the winter as well with tights and a sleeved top or cardigan; Such a gorgeous dress.
Are there any colours you've recently embraced or ones you've decided against as well??

  2. you look so fabulous in hot pink and black, and that embroidered details are so lovely, and your shoes!!!
I hated pink in the 80's, well, I hated pink for almost all my life. It was a color too related to that kind of stereotypes which I hate. But now I've decided that I like hot pink and I'm not going to care about what other people think!. Hot pink rules!

  7. Hello Kizzy! We agree that we both like the color blue, I have never had problems with the rose, because many associate it with Barbie, or with childhood I think it is a color that people have a lot of prejudices, my favorite lipsticks are roses, nowadays I I like powdered pink or millennial rose, let me tell you that that color feels great! Kisses.

  12. Pink can be a hard skin tone match, but it's clear that you've since embraced the color. Blue was my favorite color growing up as well. My favorite color right now is gray. But my favorite color combo is pink and gray. One color that I could not get into -- and still haven't gotten into -- is red.

  18. What a beautifully styled outfit! The hot pink shirred organza top and embroidered black dirndl dress look amazing worn together. Societal beauty standards are rubbish. The perception of beauty varies with each beholder and wearer, and as the right to exist supersedes the right to observe, so should the decision of what to wear reside with the wearers. I love the quote and I love your fashion taste.
