|Wonder Woman Series #13 | Lima of Fashionicide

"An oasis of colour in a sea of nudes" - Lima from Fashionicide

Hello lovelies!! I hope your week is going well so far. Finally got this series revived back on the blog here, I had to take a break from it because getting interviews done is very time consuming, but I hope to have it at least once a month because I really love interviewing such fabulous dolls & today, I have one of the ultimate fabulous gals Lima from Fashionicide. Lima is one of the first blogs that I actually started reading regularly when I began blogging, she was instantly striking to me, different and I loved and appreciated her confidence and point of view. To remember her blog then and to see how far she's come now, always gives me a sense of pride. It's hard blogging and even harder to blog when you're trying to stand out as an individual when there are so many who are the same. But, she stands firm in what she believes in, the only thing that hasn't changed is how kind she's always been to me & others. Not only is she immensely talented in makeup, she's a great laugh to talk to! We not only click with iridescent items, bargains, unicorns, but also using our platforms & voices to speak about what is right & human decency. If you haven't had the pleasure of reading Lima's blog, I suggest you get it sorted out & head over there - after reading this of course! I think it's really important to lift each other up! So, I hope you enjoy & be sure to check Lima's blog out - it's absolutely brilliant!!

Have a great day lovelies & let me know what you think in the comments.

When did you discover you loved creating with makeup?

I started the blog out to look at skincare and beauty products, as well as foundations, but it wasn't really all that creative to begin with. Then, I suddenly found I had a lot of time in my hands at weekends, and I'd bought some really pretty colours that I hadn't really experimented with before, so that's where it began. Then I realised that I was actually pretty good at it, and that I could actually wear this makeup outside.
I think one of the critical moments for me, and this sounds ridiculous now, was actually wearing a classic red lipstick outside of my flat. South Asians are conditioned to wear darker, duller colours on our lips, so to wear a deep, scarlet red was unthinkable. But looking at my lips in the mirror, they looked amazing. So why the fuck shouldn't I wear it outside? From there, I just starting creating more and more, coming up with new ideas and it was really exciting to me, it was an outlet for the creativity that was hidden away behind a desk for so long.

What/who are your Inspirations!?!

This is hard actually, I don't really look at other people and feel inspired as such. I think one of the main sources of inspiration of late has been music - I've been into Synthwave for some time now, and the sounds and the aesthetics associated with it are truly beautiful.

If you could do anyone's makeup or a certain person do your makeup, who would it be?

I'd love Phyllis Cohen at FaceLace to do my makeup! She's an actual makeup legend, who's worked with the likes of David Bowie, and has such an eye for it. (Adore facelace myself) I'd love to do Kim Kardashian's makeup, but only because I'd become InstaFamous and would probably never have to work ever again.

How do you find self belief?

This is a hard one to answer! I think my approach to self belief is quite simplistic - if I like it, I'll do it. I'm not really that interested in what other people think of me, so if I walk down the street with iridescent stickers on my face, and I get looks, I genuinely feel pity for that person. What must it be like to be so constrained by society, that you look at someone doing wearing stickers or bold makeup in such a way?

What would you say to someone trying to be themselves in the world?

Do you like what you're doing? If so, keep doing it and take every pleasure from it. If not, why are you doing it?

Aside from makeup and other things on your blog/social media, you're outspoken about different issues such as racism, appropriation & other world/social issues, why do you think it's important to be in the know & actively participate in these issues instead of just being a blogger & focusing purely on blogging?

I'm in a bit of an unusual position, in that the vast majority of people who read my blog or follow me on Insta and Twitter are white, or at least, not South Asian. I don't feel like it's my 'duty' to talk about such things though, I talk about them, because I feel strongly about them, and I want other people to know what it's like to be a minority in this country, in this industry.
I don't want to skirt around the issues, because skirting around issues is how they get swept under the carpet. The best way to heal divisions is through understanding, so if I can help just one person understand why these issues are so important, and how people on the receiving end feel about them, then I've done something good.

Also, I don't think you can just separate blogging from reality like that. Blogging isn't some kind of bubble that is wholly separate from reality, reality affects blogging and blogging affects reality, so to not speak about these things is doing myself a disservice - for example, I've talked about racism in the beauty industry, that comes from reality, but affects blogging. Change has to happen, so I can't just pretend that everything is wonderful when it isn't.

What would you change about the blogging community? Do you think it's an inclusive place for woc?

I'd make more brands work with me! Ha, but seriously, I don't know what I'd change, I don't really see myself as part of a community as such, because I don't really participate in it like others do. Is the community inclusive for WoC? Ha, no. Look at the photos you see from events, look at award nominations, look at those 'random blog love' threads - tell me how many WoC you see in those? The people doing this are oblivious to the fact that they're surrounded by white people, that their fellow nominees are all white, or that every blogger they've listed is white. The community is riddled with unconscious bias, and it's a huge problem.

You're a bright and colourful unicorn, how important is colour and expression in your every day life?

Colour is everything. If you look at colourful people, almost without exception, they are people who challenge. They challenge social norms, they challenge ideas, they challenge stereotypes, and the only way we can grow individually or collectively is to challenge the status quo. Colour does that.

Of your life so far, who are the women that have made a difference in your life?

Obviously my mum, then there's my sisters - we are such a creative family! But also people like Sheenie and Momtaz - they've shown me that South Asians can be colourful and can be different.

How long does it usually take to create your makeup looks?

I actually don't time it! Graphic liner tends to be pretty quick though. Eyeshadow work can take a bit longer.

I'm giving you your own planet, what does planet Lima look like?

The natural world on Planet Lima is pretty much like earth before humanity fucked it over, but the buildings are made from a translucent iridescent material that is abundant on my planet. Men are banned from taking leadership roles in anything, women are in control, there are no wars, there's no poverty and everyone is born equal.

If you could give 3 things to every female of the world to have, what would they be?

Confidence, understanding of one another, and a cat.

XOXOXOXOX

  10. I remember when you first featured her on here. I agree, and can definitey identify with what she speaks of, especially about WoC. I often would stop entering contests because it always seems that the same type of bloggers win. Great feature doll. xx
