I have always had a love for old mannequins used for displaying clothes since a child wandering through the shops. One day I'd like to have one sitting in my home with an amazing vintage gown on it to display in my bedroom. The use of mannequins originated in the 15th century, when miniature "milliners' mannequins" were used to demonstrate fashions for customers. Full-scale, wickerwork mannequins came into use in the mid-18th century. Wirework mannequins were manufactured in Paris from 1835. The first fashion mannequins, made of papier-mâché, were made in France in the mid-19th century. Mannequins were later made of wax to produce a more lifelike appearance. In the 1920's, wax was supplanted by a more durable composite made with plaster.
Modern day mannequins are made of a variety of materials, most commonly fibre glass or moulded plastic. Mannequins are used extensively to display clothing in shop windows and store interiors.
And one day whilst browsing, I came across these enchanting Corset Laced Mannequins created by Lucy Curtis in 2004. She has a marvellous passion for exquisite fabrics and ways of displaying them. These beauties have been sent all across the globe and one can truly see why. Using only quality fabrics and materials, your mannequin can come to life and be loved by you for many years to come. You can either have a corset and laced back or flat backed finish to suit your every desire. I have gazed over these again and again & I truly have no clue what I would choose should I ever purchase one myself. If I won the lottery, I would buy quite a few of them. The mannequins are made in England and shipped all over the world. I think they'd brighten any room, you could display hats, vintage gowns, feather boas in the bedroom, or leave them as they are with a fabric design to have in your living room. I've included below pictures of some favourites, but I encourage you to have a browse on the website and facebook page for more...and if you should be so lucky to be able to...have one made for your boudoir...I have no doubt there will be magical times indeed ;) Have a wonderful weekend dollipops!

Hello:
ReplyDeleteThese images of mannequins are absolutely superb. How we too should love to own one, or possibly more. They would make such splendidly decorative items for a bathroom or, as you say, a bedroom.
Have a wonderful weekend!

ReplyDeleteOh, these are fabulous! I love the Paris one! Well, I would, but not only because it's Paris but the colours are very "moi" ;-) Have a lovely weekend and stay warm xo
ReplyDeleteI am totally digging the Olivia mannequins. I still want one, even if it's the simple dress mannequin, just to hang jewellery or scarves on it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing such beautiful images & have a lovely weekend!

I wouldn't mind having one of these either! I always wanted to:) I've read in a novel Shadow of a Wind how they used to make them in measurements of a lady and they they would sew clothes on them...at least in the rich houses. It does sound practical. Have a nice day!
ReplyDeletemy mum has a mannequin becasue she was a dress amker for a bit and it always makes me jump when Igo into the attc for a split second when I think it's a person! These mannequins are beautiful though!
ReplyDeleteI follow Corset Laced Mannequins on Facebook for a while. They are so lovely! I wish I had one too. I think Celia in Peacock is my favorite, but Olivia would fit well into my flat. I have a mannequin, but sadly not such a beautiful one. It belonged to the sister of my grandmother, who was a tailor. I was so delighted to see the beautiful mannequins from Lucy in the paradise series. Can't wait for them to come back to the screen. Have a wonderful day! xx
ReplyDeleteNe vorrei uno anche io .
ReplyDeleteLove it! Kiss...

Since we usually think the same way, I guess there is no surprise that I have also always wanted one of these kind of mannequins! ;) I have a friend who has one, and uses it to hang necklaces and pin brooches on. Very pretty! Of the ones above, the "Paradise Mannequin" is my favorite. It looks like it belonged in an 18th century castle! :) Thank you for your information on those Fabergé eggs! I had NO idea the green one came from Krypton, and that Fabergé took such far-away commissions! ;) Love your imagination...My weekend will be pretty exiting! Tonight I'm going to commit murder on stage at a burlesque event, and on Sunday I'm going to get shot - NAKED! :D The fact that I have to work on Saturday, I just see as a temporary inconvenience...Hope you'll have a lovely weekend too honey! <3
ReplyDeleteI never realized mannequins could be so beautiful! I would take a few!

Truly works of art! I love the Parisian one. I had a mannequin but it was on casters with a metal stand. I used it for displaying jewelry and scarves. When we downsized, I sold it. I'd love to have one of these! Sigh...one can dream!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you! And these mannequins are so beautiful, they don't need anything else to hang on them. I love the antique dress forms, so much more charming than freaky plastic mannequins in shops these days. I actually use one of those dress forms in my room, sometimes just to hang things on (people wonder if I sew, but alas, I don't!) or to style and use for the blog. - J xxx
