{The Powder Room} The Body Shop Review

Hi dolls, during the summer, I decided to try out The Body Shop when I realized they were having a big sale. I needed some things so I randomly bought a bunch of items to give them a whirl. We all know The Body Shop and how they use natural ingredients & promote taking care of the Earth, so I was quite excited as I read some really great reviews before going into the store. Let's take a look...shall we!?!

Peppermint Smoothing Pumice Foot Scrub

I bought this one because let's face it, sometimes after a long hot summer of wearing sandals or being at the beach, your feet look like prunes & are in need of some care. It says it uses "intensively exfoliating volcanic rock to smooth and soften even the roughest skin"! Well, my feet aren't rough really, just some peeling skin from my sandals, I'm far too obsessed with keeping my feet soft for them to be that bad. But, I wanted to use something more natural, so I got this. If you don't like peppermint aromas, avoid this, as it's so strong. I got smacked in the face with the scent just lifting the lid. The texture is rough, so don't rub hard or you'll tear some skin. Afterwards, my feet felt like butter - buttah - NY accent gangster style. Really lovely.

Price: £7.00 for 100ml Full price / £3.00 sale price

5 out 5 hearts: Sizzling Heart. Despite the strong mint smell (which doesn't matter much, as you use on the feet, it works really well. Feet felt cool & refreshed)

Neroli Jasmin Body Lotion

I bought this because I have always loved Jasmin, I used the oil to aide in childbirth even. I smelled it in the bottle and it smelled amazing. That's where the positives end sadly. I used this after a bath before bed time, the lotion just sits on the skin, it didn't soak in really. Left a sticky feeling that I wasn't too pleased with either. I thought it wouldn't be so bad since I was going to bed, well bed time didn't improve it much and I woke up to my legs feeling like they were stuck together and there was still a slightly greasy feeling to my skin. And the aroma, sweet it may be, it's far too overpowering, I felt ill from the smell & got a migraine. I can't take heavy aromas. It smelled light in the bottle, but all over yourself, it's far too much. I'm just going to use this as a perfume & dab a tiny bit on my pulse points so it doesn't get wasted. But, I wouldn't buy this again, thank heavens it was a sale item & I didn't pay full price for it.

Price: £6.50 for 200ml full price/£3.75 sale price

Coconut Body Mist

Love the smell of coconuts, so this was a must to pick up in a sale. The smell is really gorgeous, though a tad too sweet at times. Makes you feel like your on a beach, even when you're not. But, the effects are short lasting, the scent comes in hard and strong, but fizzles out quickly like a balloon with a small hole in it. I felt like I kept having to spray it again and again to keep the scent, it didn't even linger much like even the cheapest perfumes do. The positives are that it uses Fair trade essence, which is always good. But, having said that, I would only buy this if it were on sale & use it to scent rooms or my car, so that pretty much defeats the purpose of it. I'd rather use something else for myself.

Price: £7.50 for 100ml full price / £3.oo sale price

3 out of 5 hearts: Lukewarm Heart

Wild Cherry Body Butter

I love cherries & I tried some of this out of the tester in the store and it was so lovely smelling and my hand felt soft after. The smell is so yummy, I could eat it if it were possible. So, I took a pot home with me as well. It smells like cherries indeed, it reminds me of melted "now & laters" (american sweet), I adore the scent. You only need to use a bit at a time as it covers quite well. You may find it feels greasy and you need to take some off when you apply it, but don't do that, give it a few minutes and it sinks into the skin, I used this before bedtime at first and my skin felt brilliant in the morning. Adore this product!

Price: £13.00 for 200ml (200g) full price/£3.75 sale price

5 out 5 hearts: Sizzling Heart

Seaweed Clarifying Toner & Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion

Sometimes my skin gets a little un-balanced if I'm tired or stressed, so I picked these up for their natural qualities & balancing properties. I read a lot of great reviews, so I thought it would be great & for seaweed, it smelled quite lovely. That's where the positives end for me. After one day my face broke out & it began feeling greasy, I was not impressed - I actually shouted to my husband 'Oh hell no'.  I used it a few more times just in case, but my skin didn't improve at all. I went back to my Neals Yard line to sort my skin back out. The only good thing about these products to me was the scent...which makes no sense for a product, but there you go...I won't be buying any of this again.

Price: Toner £8 for 200ml full price
Lotion £11 for 50ml full price

1 out 5 hearts: Frozen Heart, I kick myself for paying full price for this shiiiizzzz.

DeoDry Dry-Effect Deodorant

I've read a lot of different things about the effects of using certain deodorants that don't let your skin breathe, so when I spotted this, I grabbed it. Plus, it was the only one that didn't smell horrendous. The package says 'It's kind to the skin, leaves no white marks, paraben and aluminium free. Uses volcanic mineral and essential oils'. I used this all summer and I'm still using it now. It comes with a really gorgeous fresh and floral scent that lingers throughout the day. But does it work you ask!?! Well, yes it does. I stayed dry all day. I would buy this again.

Price: £2.50 for 55g (1.9oz) full price/£1.25 sale price

5 out of 5 hearts: Sizzling Heart.

There you have it!! My thoughts on all of these products! Have you tried The Body Shop!?! What did you buy & how did you get on, let me know :) Have a great Wednesday dolls!

  1. I'm going to pick up some Peppermint Foot Lotion tomorrow ... my feet could do with an 'end-of-summer' pamper. I love the Body Shop's cocoa butter, (although I'm currently using Red Fox Body Butter which I wholly recommend - marketed for black women; it is brilliant and an absolute bargain!) and I also love their lipsticks, especially their red one. Great reviews. Generally speaking I also love the smell of coconut and jasmine, but again it depends on the products, sometimes it is just too strong and that can give me a headache.

    1. Ahh...thank you dear :))) Tried to make it different!! Yes, I love those scents too, these were just too overloaded. Jasmine can be heady on it's own, so to have so much was overkill!

Their lip balms are my absolute favorites, especially the Christmas editions in small tin pots. Their body butters and scrubs are a great treat, I particularly like the karate and coconut scents :)

  19. I've only really liked two things from the Body Shop: their body butters (in grapeseed that they discontinued) and their Banana shampoo (because the smell is divine!) I was excited to see what you thought of the coconut mist-- a shame you didn't like it because it sounds tempting!

But that Wild Sherry Body Butter sounds delicious! :) It really sucks when you spend money on stuff that you don't want to use more than once though, so thank you for trying them out and telling us what NOT to get! About body oil - have you ever tried Nuxe's huile prodigieuse, well that's is fantastic and smell good, a bit expensive, but maybe it's cheaper on your side, but worth every drop - It's good for hair, nails and body -

I like the white musk at the Body shop, maybe i will get me some

  26. I haven't been to the Body Shop in forever but I think I must stop by and pick up some of that peppermint foot scrub. Bummer about the duds but at least there were some products you loved. Thanks for the review Kizzy!

I agree with you that showing abit of skin can be elegant if done right but I'm not a fan when people just do it to try to draw attention.

I still haven't been in to get any of their products, but the way they are having sales over here, they are trying to get rid of things. I tried them YEARSSSSSSSSSSS ago and they were hit and miss. Seems like they still are. So sorry that happened to your face. That is always unpleasant. That's happened to me twice this year. I'll definitely keep these in mind when I go to the store.
