Masked Eros

"Creativity is the greatest rebellion the world has in existence" Osho.

Happy Monday darlings, I hope your weekend was bliss? I finally got my Christmas tree up, so I'm glad for that. It's been so long since I've shared a favourite artist on here, so I thought I must resume this part of my blog, because Art is the whole reason I started it. Art is my biggest passion before fashion, so I'd like to keep sharing artists that I love. Today, I'm sharing an artist who's work I have loved for a very long time, Fatima Ronquillo. I love her mix of themes, fresh eyes with an old soul, bringing them to life with flair and delight. I hope you enjoy them too. Have a gorgeous start to the week dolls!

Allegory of Spring

Self-taught painter Fatima Ronquillo likes to combine old master techniques with a playful twist of modern sensibility to create a new world where art history meets imagined characters from literature, theatre and opera. She was born is Pampanga, Philippines in 1976. Fatima emigrated as a child with her family in 1987 and settled in San Antonio, Texas. She sought refuge in local libraries, studying the pages of art history ad mimicking the masters. Over the years her technique tightened and her colour choices became richer. Beginning exhibitions of her work from the age of 15 & is now widely collected in the United States and beyond. Published in many art publications. Her symbolic language is one she still uses today, flourishing into fascinating visual language that hints at her character's intimate and mysterious worlds. Fatima presently lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

  4. Thank you for introducing us with Fatima. Her technique is extraordinary. It is not common that you fight a modern painter who shows the skills of old masters, especially when it comes to portraying light. I sometimes wonder whether this skill is being lost, but obviously there are still many painters who are able to paint as the great masters. The mix of modern sensibility and classical themes really sets Fatima's work aside. Seeing these paintings made me feel inspired, calm and happy. Your introduction is much appreciated.
