During the Blackout Tuesday that took place on Instagram, I was able to find some really amazing black owned brands and artists, so I really wanted to share some of my favourites here on my blog. One of the first ones I found was odAOMO, I was immediately in love with the rich fabrics, flowing designs and striking models. Established in 2014 by chief designer & Kenyan native Dr. Sophia Omoro, the name Aomo talks not only of 'a time to harvest' but is also after the great matriarch Aomo, her grandmother.
This luxury line of modern women's wear has not only a timeless beauty but it also has a beautifully cross-cultural aesthetic that breathes new life while at the same time overflowing with soul and depth. Designed in New Orleans & ethically handcrafted in Kenya & Ghana. The principles of the company are based on 'giving back' and supports improved social and economic conditions in Kenya. Aomo utilizes sustainably sourced materials for their handcrafted leather goods, ready to wear and jewellery in limited seasonal collections. They also sustain a great relationship with craftsmanship and community development by making sure all of their artisans have fair wages. There is a flagship store in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans.
What I love the most is how even the 'simplest' piece is effortlessly striking and eye catching. You cannot wear any of these stunning works of art without grabbing the attention of those around you. My ultimate favourite piece has to be the golden yellow suit ensemble above, I know you're probably shocked because it's not a dress, but really, every piece of clothing they make has a fairytale like quality to it that makes my heart sing. The attention to every detail, flow of fabric, colour, even how it's presented is made of dreams. I'm so in love, ha!! What do you think of Aomo? Do you have a favourite here or from the website, let me know in the comments!! Have a great start to the week.

  7. Absolutely beautiful designs. I haven't heard about Odaomo before but I sure like their designs. The dresses are gorgeous and I like the bags. The photos are lovely, I like the head pieces. How lovely that the designer was inspired by her African roots and her strong grandmother. Such a beautiful tribute to her culture and roots.
